MCAA Government Affairs

The MCAA is working on your behalf in Washington, D.C. and the state capitals on issues that affect the courier industry. The association looks at issues such as regulation of independent contractors, OSHA regulations, IRS tax issues and many more. Members interested in politics or who have detailed knowledge of MCAA issues are encouraged to get involved with government affairs matters. You can read about the association’s government affairs news in the MCAA Weekly Government Affairs Update.

The courier industry is currently under fire in a number of states. The association also wants to proactively deal with the threats of independent contractor reclassification on the federal level. The MCAA needs help in order to be able to fully fight these new battles on all fronts. Please consider donating to the MCAA Advocacy Fund. The money collected will be used only for legal, lobbying, and public relations costs. Find out more information or make a contribution.

MCAA Grassroots Program

The recent increase of attention at the federal level has promoted the MCAA to launch a congressional grassroots program to build the association’s presence before Congress. The MCAA is asking that you meet with your Congressman or his/her staff at their District Offices. These meetings are an effective way for you to educate the United States Congress on how the courier industry operates. Most Members of Congress have absolutely no knowledge of what occurs in the typical courier company. The first meetings should be viewed as an opportunity to get to know one another so a strong relationship can be developed.

The purpose of these meetings will be to introduce your business and the industry along with its impact on the local economy to your elected representatives. This will set the groundwork for future meetings when crucial legislation is on the line. The MCAA has created a spreadsheet listing all regular member companies and breaking out their individual Representatives and Senators. If you would like to participate in this program please email or call John Ferraro (jferraro@kellencompany.com) at (202) 207-1121. John can also help you to schedule your individual meeting.
